Our HISTORY

META was founded in 2000 by Bob Mairena, CEO of Office Solutions, one of the top 100 Latin-owned businesses in the nation, in defiant response to the glaring inequality in the number of Latinx students attending and graduating from four-year colleges and universities. Bob provided the impetus for the organization’s founding when he reached out to fellow Los Angelinos with the same passion for change. 

Twenty-one years later, META has grown from a handful of people interested in raising scholarship funds to an organization that has the vision, partnerships, and capacity to make large-scale, transformative impact on the Southern California Latinx community.

Today, META provides college scholarships and educational mentoring to students attending colleges and universities across the country. META Scholarship recipients are active participants in their communities and share our desire to provide others with the same opportunities that were afforded to them.
